BMWs smallest cars recent redesign has wrought a deceptively quick ride, with solid braking and a chassis that loves the twisties.
Those looking to squeeze the most performance out of the 230i will want to choose the M Sport and Dynamic Handling packages that together include 19-inch wheels on performance tires, a sportier suspension, upgraded brakes, a variable-ratio steering system, and an electronically controlled rear differential. Most of these goodies and more come standard on the M240i. When we tested that model we were impressed by its ability to lunge off the line (60 mph in 3.6 seconds) and its refined ride-and-handing. BMW's foundation is built largely on its history of producing sporty compact luxury coupes, and that tradition continues with the 2023 BMW 2 Series. The 2 Series received a full redesign last year, with more muscular styling and an increase in power. The driving position is excellent and operating the controls is straightforward. It makes driving the 2 Series with vigor all that more engaging. The 2-Series Coupe looks the part of the classic sports car made modern. The quickest, and best of the bunch, is the M240i coupe. The Coupe delights on twisty roads, thanks in part to a nearly 50/50 weight distribution. The 230i offers a sport suspension that can be a bit busy in everyday driving, but the M240is adaptive suspension softens in comfort mode for the day-to-day and stiffens up nicely when you want to drive hard. Both do an excellent job of controlling rebound as the 2-Series coupe exits corners, providing enough balance to get on the power with confidence. The Coupe also sits an inch lower, with a ground clearance of 5.0 inches. Its the superior and uncompromised 2-Series.
