Quickness is important in a crossover with sporting intentions, but we wouldn't be nearly as impressed with the Macan if it weren't for its all-around competence on the road. It feels remarkably like a sports sedan, and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic delivers rapid shifts worthy of the chassis and turbocharged engines. The ride is wonderfully damped and carefully controlled..At our test track, the turbo four-cylinder Macan bounds to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds. The Macan S is significantly quicker, hitting the 60-mph mark in just 3.8 seconds, trailing the more powerful GTS by only 0.3 seconds; it leaves both the Audi SQ5 and the Jaguar F-Pace S behind as well. An SUV probably doesn't need to launch off the line as quickly as the Macan does, but we sure appreciate it.
